New Things, Solid Mission
As things grow and change I want to reassure everyone that the basis for Hillary’s Music is the foundation upon which everything new is based. The Music and Art House, apprentice program, clubhouse and summer camps are all designed to support the overall mission of learning music and art to sharpen the mind, foster creativity and boost confidence.
So much of my life has centered around educating, whether that was the original intention or not. I have known for years that I will teach music for the rest of my life, I also know how incredibly lucky I am to have discovered the perfect for career for myself as a teenager teaching neighborhood kids piano, swimming and reading. Through my time I have studied the Montessori method, dyslexia, psychology, educational pedagogies and child development. Covid made me (and everyone else!) so aware of certain aspects of education and socialization. So, I think this is how the Music and Art House has found the perfect time to explore how to help each other and our children to thrive educationally, socially and mentally. Where this will take us, I honestly don’t know. It is just obvious to me that this will only be positive for everyone who participates.
The pedagogy that I have been developing for private and group music classes is one that I am very confident in. So many students go on to play instruments, perform, and teach in their adult years. Accompanying the high school choir, performing at open mics, weddings, and fundraisers is not something that all students may want to do, but the fact that they can tells me that I have built a system to believe in. Before the shutdown I developed an apprentice program to pass on this pedagogy. I am happy to announce that this will be coming back in the next year.
I look forward to having a clubhouse/community center vibe for everyone to feel at home while nourishing their minds and creative souls. As an avid reader, I plan to host a few book clubs this summer for elementary age, teen and adults. This summer will also see both music and art camps again. I would love input on schedule structure that would work for you.
As always, thank you to everyone for trusting me and believing in the arts and their broad importance in our lives, at all ages.
