Job opportunities
The apprentice program is designed to train students to teach the basics to new students ages 10 and under. After completion, they are able to accept their own students. They use the music studio to teach out of and will continue to have my guidance. This is an awesome way for teens to earn money while using their skills and developing new ones. Some graduates of this program have continued to teach after high school while attending college, which is a great way to earn some extra money. I know these are some of the busiest students out there, so the training schedule is very flexible. Once I have a group of apprentices, I will work with them to schedule the training, which will be mostly in a group, but can also be as individuals.
Why should a busy student add something else to their packed schedule?
It is very clear how much the act of teaching helps your own understanding of the material. You can see this in siblings or even children showing what they are learning to their parents . So, learning how to teach your instrument will only make you better at playing it yourself.
Leadership skills are highly valued in the college application process and by future employers. That shouldn’t be the only reason to do something, but being an apprentice is definitely something that shows development of unique traits. At the same time, learning how to teach is a skill that many use throughout their lives and careers no matter what the subject is. Be willing to challenge yourself!
The key topics of the program are:
My Pedagogy
Child Development
Psychology
Learning Types
Non-linear teaching and learning
There are approximately 10 hours of training instruction, we will schedule these as a group, or individually. At the end of the summer, we will set up lessons with new students and I will sit in on the preliminary lessons and help when needed. Then, the Apprentice will schedule their students for weekly lessons.
The Apprentice receives $10 per half hour lesson taught. ($20/hour) I will collect payment from the families (which will be 65/month) Overhead is covered by the remainder, so once an apprentice has completed the program, there is no further cost.
The total cost is $200. This can be paid in one sum, or 3 payments of $75.
